A Spark beneath the Ashes

Brenna passed a test and applied to study engineering at university. She is rejected for the third time. She complains to her elder, who explains that people are assigned to jobs that are needed by the community and not what they fancy. To punish her she is sent to an island to repair the damage after a storm. It is hard work to make her to rethink her attitude and to appreciate her position in the community. Brenna starts repairing the damage - it looks like nobody has been there for a very long time. There is an old house with a library. In one corner of the library behind furniture and covered by a cloth stand a mirror. She spends the first night in a hammock and is unable to sleep because of the noises the house makes - like a ship that wants to get free from its anchor. Brenna spends her second day in the library browsing though books, puts some of the in her backpack to read later. The mirror has etched the following engraving into it "Hic incipit finis omnium rerum cognitarum. (here begins the end of all things known). She is curious and steps through the mirror into another world
